I don't generally like reviews that give away too much of the story, and I don't do spoilers, just so you know. My goal when writing a review is to tell you whether, overall, this is a story and/or series worth reading, and a little bit of why, and let you find out the rest for yourself. So, in a nutshell, I am writing this about this book, the series overall, and the author.A few years ago I searched for books and other items on Dachshunds. Somehow Amazon then recommended a gay romance novel with that word in the title, but I was sitting at the nail salon and didn't bother reading the description before spending the $2.99. Ever since then, Amazon has recommended gay romance novels, and while my friends think it's hilarious, I'm good with it. People in love are people in love, and the gender doesn't much matter. Yes, there is a sexual component, so if that makes you squeamish, you shouldn't read these, but it's not the focus of these stories, and it's well written, so who cares about gender.
Honestly, this author has created one of my favorite series ever, gay or straight. The story lines are sweet, if somewhat implausible sometimes, but the writing is so well done that it overcomes any of that for me (and trust me, as a fellow (non-romance) writer, I'm a tough critic). I find myself excited to see her name pop up on my new releases page, and don't even bother to read the synopses any more, I just hit the "purchase now" button!
Way off Plan was the first, and not my favorite, but as this is a review of the series as a whole (All In, Salvation, Skye Blue, Gathering Storm, Against the Wall, In Pieces, and Belonging) , it managed to keep me coming back. However, once you got Nana Dombruso involved, I was absolutely hooked. She is, without a doubt, the best granny in the entire Amazon universe! But she is only one of a plethora of very likeable and enjoyable characters. There is something endearing and worthwhile in a majority of the players (I'll admit there are a couple that are less appealing), and during their stories they allow you to build a rapport with them, and insinuate themselves into your head - in a good way. I have three major criteria for enjoyment of anything I read: Was I transported to their world; Did it make me laugh/cry (whichever was appropriate); and did it make me think. And this series categorically meets all my criteria. I would honestly love to meet all these people. I have the feeling they would totally be my kind of crazy. There were times I laughed so hard there were tears in my eyes, and there were times when I just cried. These characters and stories created a pleasant escape, while reminding me that life is complicated all over.
I would like to thank the author - Alexa Land - for some really fun afternoons of escapism when I needed them most!

All In Firsts and Forever Alexa Land Books Reviews
First off... Alexa Land is an amazing and fantastic author.
Secondly, her books are THICK and packed with a great story! So you definitely get your money's worth! No skimpy little Novella's here!
Third, This is an EXCELLENT story! Reading it made me want to go back to other books I had bought in the series... I should NEVER have read several of the books in this series out of order, as in reading them out of order I missed a good deal of the fantastic world the author creates for her readers about the continuing stories in this series and reading about the characters, and their friends, and then the friends of friends, and their family, because it really becomes an addiction for any reader.
This is one of the best male romance series of books I've ever read. And this is a great author!
But, once again,The only criticism I have is the same I have for many authors of male romance books, and that is that you don't need to detail each sex scene, and that in reality, people even head over heels in love don't always have sex like rabbits, every chance they get and constantly.
If I wanted to read a porn novel I'd read porn! I don't buy romance novel's to read and get off on! So, I don't want to read detail after detail of continual sexual encounters. It DETRACTS from the messages of real LOVE.
Plus, in this series, there are several books that contain graphic S&M and Bondage detail. I mean... come on... I know that some people are into kinky sex sometimes... But, there's a line... where people really need to get some psychiatric help if they can only get off by inflicting pain or tying someone up in order to feel in control! So, I didn't enjoy those books as much... ie... "Picking up the Pieces" or "All In". The writing and stories of each book of this series are fantastic though, and more than well worth the read.
I'm really glad I found this series when I did, it meant i could read the next book right away and not have to wait. I was definitely ready to read about Charlie and his date with Dante, and I wasn't disappointed. The second installment of the First and Forever series was charming, funny and full of wit. I loved the easy camaraderie between Dante and Charlie and the undeniable spark they hard from the word go. Dante easily became a favorite. His devotion to his family, the fact that he would do just about anything for his grandmother (even though she drives him crazy and tests that theory often lol), and his desire to be with his Angel even though he thought he was bad for him. I felt like Dante was such a well crafted character despite the fact that the book was from Charlie's pov,
Charlie's devotion to Dante was great too. I love that the angst in these stories is self contained and not overwhelming. the couple in question usually ends up dealing with things together, and the connections are undeniable. Once again the cast of supporting characters were greatly appreciated and I felt like I was meeting friends just like Charlie was. I especially liked Austin, and I went looking to see if he had a book. I was very excited when i realized he did indeed have a huge role in the ongoing story.
I know these are standalone novels but I recommend they are read in order. there is a storyline being weaved and the beats are best enjoyed if read consecutively.
The one thing that bothered me was that it seemed like Jamie was being written as the "bad guy" when i never got the impression that he would be judgmental of anyone from reading his book. Especially since he and Charlie were essentially in the same boat; falling for someone who had the reputation for being dangerous. The way his concern was portrayed threw me off a bit, but all in all this was a satisfying read.
